Welcome to Lucky Therapeutic Riding Academy
A 501 (c)(3) Nonprofit
Our purpose is to provide a positive, safe environment, offering supportive services and various activities and resources through our therapeutic riding program.
We offer weekly horseback riding sessions to children with physical, cognitive and emotional disabilities.
What types of disabilities benefit from therapeutic riding?
- Cerebral palsy
- Head trauma
- Spina bifida
- Emotional disabilities
- Autism
- ADD/ADHD
- Sensory processing problems
- learning disabilities
The rhythmic movement of the horse provides physical and sensory benefit from head to toe. Riders must move their trunk, arms, shoulders, head and the rest of their body to stay balanced. Depending on the movement of the horse, muscle tone can be increased or decreased. Specifically designed activities along with the proprioceptive input provided by the horse’s movement increase the rider’s body awareness. Once the rider’s tone is normalized and they have awareness of where their body is, they can begin working on motor planning.
How is our program different from other programs in the area?
Formerly Lakeside Therapeutic Riding Center, established in 2004, our program is therapeutically and recreationally based. The rider receives an individualized one-on-one session specifically designed to meet the rider’s needs.
